    Working under guidance of the Director of the Office of Pre-Professional Health Studies (PPHS), the Advisor 1 provides high-level support, advising and counseling for students who seek admission to Medical programs as well as other types of health profession programs such as Dental, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Podiatry and Veterinary Medicine. This position is involved in all aspects of advising and includes reviewing over ePortfolio documents, scheduling Pre-Health Evaluation Committee interviews, and disseminating information regarding requirements and timelines for selected career paths in the health professions. The focus is on advising and planning with students. This position involves the development, coordination and implementation of educational counseling services geared to achieving, maintaining or improving student success to professional school.

    The Advisor I:
    • provides access to information and resources for the achievement of academic, career and personal goals.
    • acts as an advocate and referral source and provides consistent outreach and follow up services.
    • helps organize, maintain, prepare, and present materials related to preparing for an application to the health professions.
    • creates and delivers workshops to students on professional school exploration and the application process, including how to write strong personal statements
    • creates and maintains resources for students interested in professional school and admissions interview preparation and helps to promote these resources to students.
    • represents the office at internal and external meetings and events and is active within the appropriate advising associations, including the National Association for Advisors in the Health Professions.
    • gathers and analyzes information; presents numerical data effectively, is able to read and interpret written information
    • develops innovative approaches and ideas; generates suggestions for improving one's own work and work of the unit.

    Required Education and Experience:
    Master’s degree with six months or more of experience. Experience in an academic setting in higher education or related field preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

    • Proven ability to and manage difficult or emotional student situations
    • Demonstrated computer skills, proficiency with MS Office Suite software programs, and
    willingness to learn other relevant campus software.
    • Proven ability to work well and to collaborate effectively with diverse constituents,
    including students, faculty, admissions officers, and administrative staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with others as part of a team in a high-volume and fast
    paced environment.
    • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to use independent judgment.
    • Proven project and time management skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated computer and technology literacy skills, to include proficiency with MS
    Office Suite software programs, and willingness to learn other relevant campus software.
    • Previous experience working with undergraduate students in an advising and coaching
    capacity on health-related topics is strongly preferred.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Knowledge and experience with web design programs.
    • Knowledge of Canvas, Adobe Creative Suite, Zoom and Microsoft Teams
    • Knowledge of spreadsheets, formatting, and analyzing data.
