Name of Opportunity:  Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Description:  The Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) is a tuition-free four-week residential program for rising college juniors and seniors interested in entering the health professions. It has been hosted and funded by UMass Chan Medical School since the 1970’s. The SEP supports students’ preparation for future careers in health care through academic enrichment activities and professional development sessions. Seminars on cultural and contemporary health issues demystify the application process for health professions schools, expose participants to a range of career opportunities in health care, and provide networking opportunities with current medical students, scientists, physicians and other healthcare professionals.  Participants also complete a health equity research project, which allows students to identify current gaps that prevent equitable access to high-quality care and health choices.

Goals
  • To enhance the preparation and competitive standing of program participants for admission into graduate, medical, or other health profession programs, and to strengthen the Massachusetts healthcare workforce.

Objectives

  • To improve the academic skills of participants in critical thinking, problem solving, note taking, test taking strategies, time management, and decision-making.
  • To enhance the communication skills of participants through writing, public speaking, and practice interviews.
  • To enhance the preparation of participants for professional school applications, including preparing program participants for required standardized exams such as the MCAT and GRE. Coach participants in preparing for medical and health professions school interviews.
  • To provide participants with information on how to finance a medical, graduate or other health profession education.

Name of Opportunity:  Combined Dermatology and Clinical Research Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Fellowship

Description:  In conjunction with Beacon Clinical Research, DermCare Experts offers its Combined Dermatology and Clinical Research Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Fellowship, an innovative two-year program in metro Boston designed to help college graduates gain extensive exposure to both dermatological patient care and clinical research. This is an immersive and diverse experience that strengthens the medical school application in this extremely competitive environment. Fellows work as certified medical assistants, under the guidance of two Board Certified Dermatologists, that are deeply engaged in outpatient dermatology as well as certified clinical research coordinators fully responsible for leading a variety of trials sponsored by multinational pharmaceutical companies. With this holistic and intensive training approach, those who graduate are uniquely poised to excel in the medical school application process and later as medical students, having developed confidence in interacting with patients to help manage their care under the tight supervision of the physician. In particular, participants will be extremely well-prepared to undertake future dermatology rotations in order to enter the highly competitive dermatology residency match. We are deeply committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in medicine and strongly encourage applications from students underrepresented in the medical field.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for this paid fellowship, and may be considered throughout the year depending on the strength of the candidate. Candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, transcript, and one actual letter of recommendation emailed directly to tanisha@dermcare.expert, or through our Handshake listing.
