    Job Description:
    Florida State University is one of Florida’s pre-eminent research universities committed to student success on campus and beyond while preparing students for 21st-century careers. In an effort to meet these goals, the Florida State University is seeking a pre-health professional advisor to work with a cooperative team of prehealth academic and advisors in the Division of Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences within the College of Medicine. The prehealth advising team serves over 2000 undergraduates interested in prehealth professions; providing premedical/prehealth academic and career planning for health careers. Prehealth advisors help students with academic goal setting and planning, academic success strategies, professional career choice, professional school applications, soliciting strong letters of recommendation, writing effective personal essays, and engaging in meaningful service and clinical experiences. The position also serves as the faculty advisor to several pre-health professional student organizations and coordinates campus Medical School Dean’s Day, Pharmacy Dean’s Day, and Pre-Professional Organization Day activities. The advisor will represent the prehealth advising program at events and/or functions at FSU, local universities and colleges, and partner with career advising and experiential learning centers on campus hosting workshops and presentations. The advisor will maintain and develop up-to-date, engaging, pre-health advising materials. The advisor is expected to meet one on one with students to offer individualized advising for the students' chosen health career path as well as to conduct small group workshops. The advisor will maintain accurate student contact data and confidential student records.     Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree or higher and two years' experience related to academic and/or student services, counseling, social work, or higher education (Note: higher education may substitute at an equivalent rate.) Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Experience demonstrating critical thinking and utilizing problem-solving skills. Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Experience evaluating process effectiveness and developing change or alternatives. Experience gathering, interpreting, reporting, and/or editing information. Experience interpreting academic program requirements and providing advice. Experience prioritizing and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously and meeting project deadlines. Experience performing accurately in a detail-oriented environment. Experience performing assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision. Experience with applicable computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, or other comparable programs.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, goals, and/or objectives. Experience effectively training and directing the work of others. Experience providing subject matter expertise and counseling others. Knowledge of academic resources available to students. Knowledge of career counseling tools and resources. Experience with the practices of academic program planning, development, and evaluation.
